August Rush

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the middle of August already.  This summer has gone by very quickly for us.  We have a very busy August lined up as usual and the skies are clearing!  Fishing has been very good and the rain should help keep it that way.  Walleyes are hanging out in 12-18 feet of water which is right where they should be at this time of year.  The big pike are starting to feed more as they prepare for winter hanging out with the walleyes for the most part.

In 2025, it was a real challenge dealing with the smoke.  We called this season the summer of delay.  The wind each day would determine if we could fly in the direction we wanted to due to the low visibility.  There was many delays and some even had to wait an extra day.  We did our best and got everyone moved safely when the time was right. Our guests have been very happy and the fishing has been great.  The smokey summer we have had has made the fish bite all day long thinking it is evening it seems. It might be a shock to the fish to see an unobstructed view of the sun!

There has finally been some rain throughout the entire far north of Canada, through Saskatchewan, Manitoba and here as well.  The smoke has cleared significantly and we hope to be that way for awhile. The rain is also much needed for the water levels on all of our lakes.  We had a dry spring and early summer so we have low water and on some lakes, we have found some new fishing spots.  Our guests have shown us some reefs that we did not know even existed.  We have marked a number of them with jugs and it has made fishing a little easier.  They have been the honey holes at this time of year when the walleyes are on the reefs.

As we get to the end of August we start to plan our big jobs at some camps.  We have a couple of dock jobs planned, a couple of dock sheds, some metal work, staining and always brush cutting.  Having a more open area around the camps lets the wind blow in and keep the bugs away.  Of course we will get to do some fishing and check out some of these new reefs our guests have found this summer.

Here are some pictures from the Phelps Party.  These guys have been our guests for over 30 years.  They had an awesome trip to Findlay in July!
