We have seen seasons fly by before but 2026 seems to have really gone by very quickly. The weather has been good, the fishing has been great and our guests are as happy as ever to be here! All in all, things have been going great and next year is looking as good as or better than this year.
The biggest question that we hear in 2026? Where is the Otter? It is still in British Columbia, finishing the engine conversion. We have been through every emotion you can imagine this summer in this process. Nothing in todays world seems to go as planned these days. We have been in 2 week land for a couple of months now and are getting close to the final running and set up of the engine before I can go and pick it up. Aaron has been to the West Coast already and is checked out on their aircraft, trained and very proficient with the new engine. We are more than ready to have HXY back but we can’t fly it until it is done. Being patient sucks!
We have been fortunate that our friends/competitors have had airplanes available to keep our fishermen moving to and from the camps in a safe and timely manner so we have not really missed a beat. Trust me in that the world will know when we have our refurbished airplane back on our dock!

Not having the Otter has also cut into our time in the bush. But we have found a couple of opportunities to get up there for a night here and there. The boys are pretty much taking off their own fish now and are becoming good fishermen. We have had multiple triple headers on and even had a quadruple on when we went up north and their other Grandpa was with us!

Water levels have remained fairly high all summer but have recently started to go down. There is quite a bit of rain and some cooler weather ahead as we start to get to the second half of summer. Fishing has been very good and it seems when we have more rain and higher water the fishing is better than on a year when it is dry and the water is low. The trophies have been on and off depending on the week. The bigger pike have turned on in the past 10 days or so with lots of guests catching and releasing plenty of pike over 40 inches. Walleyes are always on the bite but when the big ones turn on, they turn on at every lake. We have had lots of walleyes being caught and released in the 25-27 inch range and a few up to 29. The big ones will turn on more as fall approaches.
