Another Season Done!

2023 is complete! We had a great season along with a great Moose Hunt! The airplanes and camps are all put to rest for the winter. We are packing up but also booking people for next season as we prepare for another one. It snowed in Red Lake last night, Oct 23, it is time to shut it down for awhile. We all need some rest.

Our moose season this year was one of the better ones we have had in awhile. The moon came full during the first week to set off the rut and every group this year had lots of action. We ended up with 5 moose being harvested. All respectable racks and great eating. Just like always the moose were tough to bring out into the open. We had quite a few close calls with the moose coming right to the shoreline but stopping short and hanging up. It takes some finesse to make them take that last step, as our hunters found out this year. Here are a few pics of the bulls we took this season.

This bull came down to Aaron's call one night but would not show himself. Charging the shoreline with a few yards of Aaron over and over as dark settled in. Jerry and I went back the next morning hoping to get him to come out. After a few hours of nothing, I started to walk up and over the ridge. Away from where we thought the bull was. He heard me leaving and walked right out. After a half hour of watching him walk the shore towards us, he was finally within shooting distance. An experienced moose hunter, Jerry took the shot and just like that moose was on the menu!

Aaron has been moose hunting with me for a few years and he has shot a number of moose. This year after the hunt was over we had to go close down the last 2 camps. Our first morning back in the bush, Aaron called this beauty in on a string. Although there is always a challenge. Shooting into the sun, through the fog, with a foggy scope. He had to be close to see. The bull came right up to Aaron and he was able to make the shot. One and done.

We accomplished a lot of work at all of the camps this fall. I will put up another blog soon detailing all of the work completed. We have a great team here and it is really showing. Taina and Aaron have really found their way and continue to take on more responsibility each season and we continue to improve our small company. The future looks bright.
