Kyle and I made our last tour of the north to close the last camps and rebuild the dock at Findlay lake. The forecast was for one more week of nice warm days and sunshine. After we brought out the last hunters, we repacked and went right back to the bush to take advantage of the good weather. Everything went like clockwork. Closing camps with 2 of us and Dustee was easy. When we were done another camp, the weather wasn’t an issue and we just went to the next one.
The dock at Findlay is a big job checked off the list. We fixed the tops of the existing cribs, filled them with rocks and ran new stringers, raising it 6 inches. This is a good solid dock now and should last for 15 years. It was frosty every night, we would start out each day with our jackets and toques on.
And then by the afternoon we were in our t-shirts.
Kyle and I spent a month together in the bush. He is continuing his pilot training and has plans of coming back next season to work for us. He didi a great job this summer.
It is time for a rest for the Otter! The old girl did another great job of getting all of our guests moved this summer. It feels weird not to have her tied to the dock. After a rest and some winter maintenance, she will be ready to do it all over again!
