Camps are ready to go and the big ones are active!!!.

It was a stretch of great weather to help get the camps open this last couple weeks.  We were able to work long days and battle the high water on our western most camps but they are all ready to go!!!  We are steadily filling all of the camps and a few groups of fishermen have returned from their fishing vacation and reported having great fishing.  The walleyes are post spawn and the northerns would be also since they spawn before the walleyes.  The feeding frenzy will get better everyday!

Darkwater lake had the Christensen Party fish it right out of the gate.  They caught lots of fish including many nice pike.  The biggest for their trip was a 38 incher.

Cobham River -The  Heichert party.  Guests who had been with us back when we were still flying out of Ear Falls.  They caught Big Pike in every spot on the map where I marked that there would be fish!!  🙂  That doesn’t always happen.  They had countless fish up to 39 inches and had 1 over 40 inches.  TONS of action!

Cherrington had the Krapac Party fish it for their 3rd time.  Simply put, I heard some of their nicknames for spots on the lake and it kind of sums up the fishing they experienced….Chaos falls, Insanity Bay and so on.  They explored the whole lake walking up many sets of rapids and streams, seeing suckers spawning and many fish scales on the shores.  The bears had been feeding at these locations.  They had no problems until one day at the end of walleye alley.  Walking along noticing the scales once again they heard a number of Whoofs from the bush ahead.  Back to the boat!!!  They started the week of on their first full day…a 41 inch Pike!  And another big girl sighted.  They hit that spot everyday.  Persistence pays off….the last full day yielded a 42 inch fat trophy pike!!!  A great trip, beginning to end.

Here are some pics I took during the camp opening.

Don't forget your water rudders down!! I caught someone today with their rudders down as they flew by and as the tradition goes... they owe you a case of beer. My favorite color!

Operation Hammerhandle headed to the Cobham River today. They had awesome tee shirts again this year. I hope the big ones cooperate for them.
