A shorelunch is the best meal on the Planet!  A meal that can be duplicated at home or in the cabin but doesn’t taste near as good as it does out on the lake.  Freshly caught walleye, 1 inch cubed potatoes with diced onions, Heinz beans, Natural Rye Bread and a tasty beverage made by Labatt!   Some of our guests have shorelunch everyday, no matter what the weather!  And some of them fish early in the year when the weather is unpredictable.  If you are new at it, just keep an eye on the weather and do it on the sunny days with little to no wind.  Pictures supplied by our fantastic guests, some new and some of these guys have been fishing with us since the beginning.  Here is what you need to do to enjoy the best meal out there…..

Step 1

Assemble a group of your best friends and family.

Step 2

Meet up with your buddies at The Spot.  It doesn’t take long to catch lunch!

The best ones to eat are the 14-16 inch walleye.  They cook quick and melt in your mouth!!!

Step 3

Find a location with a view preferably in the sun!  Also when picking your spot please make sure that the wind is carrying your smoke and ashes across the lake not back into the bush behind you.  Take advantage of the calm days.

Also look for a spot where it is easy to get out of the boat.  Smooth wet rocks make for graceful falls into the lake and skinned elbows!

 Step 4

Get to work.  Somebody needs to fillet the fish, cut the potatoes-dice the onion, get the fire started, hand out the beverages.  If everyone picks a duty there is plenty of time to relax.  Remember that your fire needs to only be a medium fire that can be maintained, too big of a fire will only start your oil on fire and you will be eating bread for lunch!!   Have some small wood nearby to keep stuffing it.

Step 5

Heat up the pans on the fire and wipe them out with paper towel, then heat up the oil.  You can get away with one pan and cook your potatoes first.  Remeber, before you cook your fish, add a tablespoon of margarine to your oil, this helps your fish brown nicely.

There is usually one guy in the group who can do the fish the best.

Step 7

A perfectly angled rock in the sun put use.  A well picked Shoerlunch spot!
