Cherrington Lake is located 115 miles northwest of Red Lake. The lake itself is approximately 20 miles long. If broken into sections it is easier to describe. The big lake, to the west, is quite large with the water being crystal clear. It is unique because it not only offers fantastic Walleye and Northern fishing but also Lake Trout. The big lake has depths over 100′ deep. Lake Trout are caught easily in May and September, with many of our guests trying and succeeding in catching them in June and July. Since this part of Cherrington is so sizable the walleye and Northern fair favorably and are noted to be of considerable size. The average Walleye caught in July and August is probably close to 23″ long with Northern being of trophy status. The rest of the lake has semi-stained water due to the color of the rock bottom.
Cherrington has a tremendous amount of shoreline with many bays and points. The quality of Walleye fishing is exceptional most everywhere on the lake. Cherrington has a lot of underwater structures and many bays with cabbage weeds to house trophy Northern. For the adventurous fisherman we do have a small pull over portage which gives access to another big portion of the lake. To sum up the fishing at Cherrington, it does not matter where you head first, the quality and quantity of the fish caught will be hard to match anywhere. We have two outpost cabins on Cherrington Lake. The “Bay” and the “Point” cabins are located in a protective bay and are walking distance apart. It is great for large parties but is secluded enough that groups not wanting to be disturbed will have the necessary privacy. Both cabins are fully functional 6-man camps with hot and cold running water, indoor
showers and toilets. The kitchens have gas refrigerators, chest freezers, stove and lighting. We also have gas BBQ grills and fish cookers for your cooking convenience. The cabins each have a fabulous screened in deck with an incredible view. A satellite telephone is available for emergency purposes. The cabins have 2-14′ and 1-16′ Lund boats each with 15 hp Yamaha motors, plus a spare. We have a 300 gallon fuel tank located at the”Point” cabin dock. The fuel is there for all guests to use and to ensure everyone has clean fuel for trouble free outboard operation.

Conservation Policy
At our Northern Lakes we have had a NO TROPHY policy since 1992. There is a reason why we have not just good, but outstanding fishing. This means that all fish over the slot must be released. All walleye over 18″ and all northern over 27.5″ need to be put back in the lake. If your group is on a 5, 6 or 7-day regular priced trip with us, we will include an 8 – day conservation license, if everyone in your party decides not to take fish home with them. With a Sport Fishing 8 – day license we allow you to take home 4 – walleye under 18″ and 2 – northern under 27.5″ and 1 lake trout under 22″. With this type of policy you will be assured the best fishing these premier lakes have to offer for years to come.
