Canadian Fly In Fishing

The fish are in many depths.

The Firnett family fished on the Cobham River this week in search of a 40 plus incher. They were successful! Here is a 42 incher!

It remains warm and sunny up here and as warm as it is, the walleyes are anywhere from 5 feet to 20 feet of water.  I spent the night at Cherrington last night and caught lots of fish in the evening.  Mostly in 8 feet on the edge of and right in the weed beds.  The Findlay fishermen were catching big ones in 30 feet, out in the middle of the lake.  The Cobham River fishermen came out saying how aggressive the walleye were, the 5 of diamonds was a great walleye lure!  The fish are where you find them.  The big pike are slowly becoming more active as we get closer to fall and the days get shorter.

The Ramel family made the decision to make the trek from California to Red Lake and then on to Shearstone Lake for a family vacation.  Urs had has hands full but they came out with huge smiles and big fish stories.  4 in a boat, lines and hooks everywhere, fish on, a good time that will never be forgotten.  Here are some of the nice fish they caught on Sheartone Lake.

The Women of Amik Outposts

We have lots of fisherwomen at Amik Outposts!  Our comfortable modern cabins definitely have something to do with that, as well as first class fishing.  Generally the biggest fish is caught by one of the girls!  If you ask the men on the trip, the “Guiding” put the girls on the fish and the girls always say it was skill.  It may be a bit of both but all we know is that all the women have a blast fishing at Amik.  The families and couples trips are usually during the middle of the summer when the weather is the warmest.  Hows the fishing?  Have a look for yourself.  The fishing on our lakes stays great all summer long!

You don’t have to be an avid fisherwoman either to come on the trip,  bring a book and relax in the silence.  Although many have returned to say, “I brought a book along for when fishing was slow….I never opened it!  Fishing is way more fun when you are catching all the time!”

Some of the women who fish with us have been doing so for almost 20 years.  They can drive boats, bait hooks and clean fish… if they had to.  The husbands usually look after the girls very well.

Fishing off the dock at dark can be great as well, some time alone… until the screaming starts for help to land the beast!

If you treat your wife right and you happen to cast your lure into the trees…. and you ask nicely, maybe she will climb up there and get it back for you.  Now it was totally worth taking off all the fish and baiting hooks eh!!
