We have been busy showing people a great time in the bush. And the fishing has been spectacular. The only thing that rivals the fishing is the weather! Contrary to what the media is telling everyone, we are not on fire here in NW Ontario! Yes we are dry, there is a fire ban in place, we have a few fires burning in the area but nothing out of the ordinary. We have had a few timely rains which have helped maintain water levels which are pretty much normal for this time of year.
During June, most of our guests are repeat customers who fish the same week every season and they have been reporting that the fishing has been as good or better than anything they have ever seen. Numbers of walleye have been pretty crazy and the pike have been BIG. Walleyes have been gradually getting larger each week. We have had a number of 28 inch walleyes caught on a number of lakes with a few 29-29.5 inch walleyes being caught and released as well. Haven’t cracked 30 inches yet. The pike have been mostly near the walleyes and feeding on them as well. Lots of T-bone attacks, a few even boated while hanging onto a small walleye. Largest pike so far is 46 inches but tons of them 40 to 44 inches. One fishermen caught 2- 42 inch pike on back to back casts, another group had 6 pike that measured 43 inches in one week with many more from 39 to 42 inches. Pike are getting fatter now after the spawn. Fishing has been awesome.
The camps have been running smoothly and we have been able to get everyone moved in a timely manner with the exception of one group who had to spend an extra night in the bush because we could not get through the weather. This happens every year and is part of the trip. Generally once in the spring and once or twice in the fall. We fly quite a distance and the weather can change a lot from one end to the other. Lots of sunshine has been great for the solar systems and the tans of our guests!
Time goes fast for us at this time of year and we do our best to stay organized to make sure that everyone gets all the bait, beverages and supplies they need for their vacation.
