Let the chase begin.

The camps are closed except for the ones that we will be moose hunting out of.  Our last fishermen have been coming out and having great fishing, right until the last day!  One guy in the Cherrington Party had 2-27 inch walleye and from the Cobham River, the last cast yielded a 41 inch pike…right off the dock!  One of the 2-41 inch pike they caught.  The fish of the trip for them though was our largest walleye of 2013.  A 32 inch monster!!  Here is the Big Pike they caught right off the dock.

We have been busy around the camps getting jobs done as well and the weather was on our side.  Vee lake got a new boat ramp and a new roof.

Next we moved on to Cobham.  Morley got a new boat ramp and had some dock work done. Daniels got a new coat of stain before closing.  Here is the new boat ramp at Morley.

Of course I had to keep my partner with me while we were in the bush.  Dustee has been loving her time in the bush.  She is constantly hunting, sitting motionless in the long grass just waiting for a mouse to make a move.  She caught mice quite often and is still in pursuit of the fast footed squirrel.  I expect her to be successful by the end of moose hunting.  She will be the camp watch dog for the next 4 weeks.

In the boat, she is just as excited as anyone when we catch a fish!   She is constantly scanning the shoreline, waiting for something to move.

Next week the moose season begins!  I look forward to this time of year.  Getting to spend everyday for 3 weeks in pursuit of the largest mammal in North America.  It can be frustrating if they do not cooperate but after 20 seasons of hunting the beasts I have learned that you can never give up.  We once shot one at 7:07 on the 7th day of the hunt!  Appreciate the opportunities you are given, take advantage of them when they arise because you may not get another one for the rest of the hunt.  They can sound like a freight train coming through the bush towards you and leave like a mouse if something spooks them.  I will have my camera rolling throughout the hunt to catch the excitement.  Here are some past videos to get you excited for hunting season.
