It has been busy for us here in Red Lake since the start of our fishing season. Busy enough that I have not had the time to Blog! Our fishermen continue to experience great fishing and see some awesome sights. Moose, bears, caribou, pine martens and the majestic northern lights!! A trip with Amik Outposts is more than a fishing trip… it is an experience to remember. The weather continues to be fair, it cooled off for the last few days but mostly sunny. A nice break from the hot weather we had last week. There are a few fires burning but nothing close to any of our camps. Smoke in the air once in awhile, just depends on which way the wind blows. The mayflies have hatched and are almost done. Fish were filled up with the mayflies and the bite was not affected, just in shallower water feeding heavy. The hot weather has slowed down the trophy pike but the walleye fishing has more than made up for it!
Dark Water Lake has had a few different groups fish there recently. Our good old rednecks from Arkansas, the Garrett party fished there last week and had a great time. Catching an absolute ton of fish with a 26 inch walleye being the largest. They also saw many moose during their stay and got to hear some wolves howling. Not a common occurance. After them was the Whitehead family. A Dad and 2 young boys. They caught lots and of course the youngest caught the biggest northern and largest walleye. They had no camera on the trip but wish they had. While in camp one day they saw a small bull moose come out on the beach across the lake and lay down and go to sleep. Here are some pictures from the Garrett boys.
Jeanette lake had the Tippett party fron Kentucky. They nailed the walleye! 27.5, 26 and 25 were the biggest but the numbers were insane! Surprisingly they caught their biggest pike during the hottest weather, they caught a 42 inch pike along with a 39.5, 37.5 and 2 at 36 inches long. Good fishing. They also had a guy in his group almost get run over by a caribou!! They will send us a video of it and I will post it, It got within 20 feet of them!
Shearstone lake. The Lentz party of 6 including 4 newcomers came out and were smiling when I got there to pick them up. Lots of fish including a a few 26 inch walleye and another huge one that never even got measured but much bigger than the others! Here is a couple pictures from their trip.
The Blue Walleyes have been active on Vee lake! The last 2 groups to fish on that body of water have reported catching a few of them. Everyone always takes pictures but they do not really do them justice. They are a beautiful blue color in the sun when seen with the naked eye. Here are some pictures from the Call party who fished there last week. They had an awesome trip and found at least 20 new hotspots. They slayed the walleye catching 4 monsters that measured 26.5 inches and countless walleye that were 20 to 25 inches. Largest pike were 42 and 3 at 38 inches. With fishing like that, no wonder they were ecstatic when I picked them up. I was even late!! Lol
