Dear Rena & John,

Thank you for the nice week (July 7 – 13 at Cherrington Lake)

I have come to Canada every 2 – 3 years since 1968 and this was my best yet.  You run a good fishing trip and have great accommodations.  Hope to see you in a couple of years and thanks again.

John Robertson

Just a quick note to tell you I appreciated your professionalism and enthusiasm when we flew into Springpole last week with the Nelson party.  The fishing was outstanding, the accommodations were excellent and the timing of our leaving, arrived 45 minutes early was very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis Ballinger

 Hi Rena and John,

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for a great trip.  John picked us up from Cobham Daniel yesterday Thursday June 28th.

This was the first time I have ever done anything like this and it was better than I could have imagined.  The flights in and out were fantastic and the accommodations made our trip very relaxing and enjoyable.  The fishing was very good and provided each of us with great fishing stories and memories that will stay with us for a life time.

Thanks again for all that both of you did for us to make our trip one that I will never forget.  I am quite certain that we will be back at some time in the future.

Sincerely,
Steve Brandt

Hi John and Rena

I was with the Weber party that just returned on Memorial Day.  My second trip with Amik – another outstanding experience.  I just wanted to drop a note and say thanks.  I can’t imagine the pressure you are under to determine when and when not to fly.  It was tough waiting that extra day at Black Birch, but I know you are making the best decisions for your clients and your family.  I appreciate it and so do my wife and three children.  I want to bring them to a fishing camp someday – Amik is the place to go for safe, fun, secluded, great fishing.

Thanks again, I will be back!

Jeff Berg

Rena:

Thank you for all you and John do for my family and friends.  It is always so nice to see you and catch up.  I always feel like you take great care of us again year after year like you did this year.  You make the difference and this is why we keep coming back.  Thanks als for getting that brochure for my brother.  He was so impressed and excited to show his boys and friends about his trips to Canada.  I’ll be in touch soon to re book for Loree again.

Thank you again.
Mike Seal

Hi Rena!  Just thought I would drop a line to say what a good trip we had.  All the new members of my party had a great time and thought the fishing was great.  Say hi to John from us and again he did his usual great job.  See ya next year.  Take care and have a great year.

John and Rena,

After Anthony and I spent 4 totally relaxing days at Cherrington Lake this past Labor Day, my mind keeps returning to the lake, the cabin, and the fishing as the finest fishing trip I've ever experienced. I've visited other remote camps in Northern Ontario, but nothing compares with the facilities, the solitude, and of course the fishing.
A few of my fondest memories:
a.. The absolute solitude - sitting on the deck at dusk, straining to hear anything but finding nothing to hear. The silence was broken only by the sound of an owls wings as it flew over the cabin. Very inspirational.
b.. Conversations with local Red Lake residents the night before we took off for Cherrington. I had no idea there was mining up in that part of the world.
c.. The fishing was superb - we're both die-hard walleye fisherman and we found all you need is a simple locator - we found walleyes at many different depths, with sizes running between 16" and 25" consistently.
d.. The morning we were trolling through Walleye Alley, with my Wally-Diver swimming within sight, as a 40" northern emerged from the depths and eyed my lure. After a brief moment of panic, I opened the bale and it attacked. Ten minutes later, after a few photos and quite a bit of knee-shaking, the northern was safely returned to be caught and released again.
e.. The service - I felt really prepared after attending the fly-out meeting. You guys covered everything nicely - the flight up and back was breathtaking and it was comforting to know John knew the way.
Many more memories of course (Anthony and I are both saddened to know the black bear that spent the week with us isn't around any longer, due to the failure of others to follow directions), however it just added to the experience.

Like the email subject says, "I'm hooked". Wondering if the ice has settled in on the lakes yet? And if you're interested, I found the Cherrington Point Cabin on Google Earth (coordinates: 52.34.54.26N, 92.51.49.26W - but I suppose John already knows that). The resolution doesn't allow you to actually see the cabin but it's fun nonetheless to see the terrain from the air.

We're both talking about returning - perhaps with a couple more people this coming season. Hoping to see you at the Sportsman Show this coming spring. Late August works well for us - maybe we'll try a different location. . .

One final thought - I can't help but be amazed at the effort you have all expended to make this a first class experience. Thinking that everything up there was flown in and the logistics of maintaining such an endeavor are impressive to say the least.

I have been meaning to let you folks know how much we enjoyed our recent trip to Shearstone Lake. You folks run a first class operation! We would certainly like to return next year but my son and son-in-law fear their wives would file for divorce if they tried a repeat trip that soon. To compound this problem my daughter is expecting their second child in late August. As of now we are hoping they can convince their wives of a 2008 trip. The only difference is that we would like to make it a four day rather than a three day trip. At any rate we will be in contact with you in the future.

Cheers,

Bill Nelson

Rena, I wanted to drop you a quick note to say Thank You for the hospitality you extended to us during our stay last week at Cobham Daniel. After a rough start on Sunday with the bad weather, we had a good time at the outpost camp. It was really nice when John flew in on Tuesday to deliver fuel, ice and look at the porch refrigerator. The wind was terrible that day and his trip showed the customer service you provide your customers.

In discussing our trip with Glenn Hansen, Keith Johnson and Kent Johnson, we all agreed we would like to return to Cobham in the future. Although we do not make the trip to Canada for fishing every year, we will try to return in 2 or 3 years. Please keep us on your mailing list.

Again, thank you for the hospitality and pass our thanks on to the other members of Amik outposts. We look forward to seeing you again.

Peter McCabe

This is a little late in coming but I wanted to extend my appreciation for the way you guys made my first fishing trip to Canada memorable. I was with the group of guys you fly into Springpole. My last trip was May of 2003 and have touting your service to any fisherman I talk to. I hope to be back soon.

Rena and John: Attached are pictures of two Northerns I caught at Vee Lake while up their with the Rick Anderson party, August 27th through September 3rd. The picture with the Northern facing to the left as you look at the pictures was 38", 12 lbs. The one facing to the right as you look at it was 40", 12 lbs. The amazing thing about these two is that they were caught within an hour of each other using a light action rod and reel, with 4 lb line, without a steel leader. I guess I kept them on and landed them because both had been hooked in the rear corner of the mouth so they couldn't bite me off. It took about 15 minutes each to land them, due to the light tackle, and they were immediately released after pictures, and they recovered nicely and quickly swam to the bottom.

We had a great time and thank you for your hospitality.

I just got home last night, and wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful trip.

I was part of the Zenner group in the Cobham Daniel cabin. The cabin was nicer than I had expected for such a remote location. I’d never been in a small plane before, but the flights in and out were perfect. The winds and the low water level made the fishing a little difficult, but there are never any guarantees with fishing. We were still able to catch plenty of fish. I’ve attached a picture of a 41” northern I caught in one of the bays on the first day with a gold Johnson Silver Minnow.

Twice we were able to sit in our boat, and for several minutes, watch a bear eating berries on shore. Even if I hadn’t caught fish, the scenery would have been worth the price of the trip. I’m sure this won’t be my last trip with you.

Thank you,

Greg Jones

Rena,

Just wanted to send a note to say thank you for the excellent trip we had to the Cobham River outpost. I am not sure exactly why, but all agreed that this was by far the best Canadian trip we have taken. I believe you called the camp rustic, but I believe this is the first camp that we felt had not only been well used but enjoyed. I am sure that you are not all that happy about the writing on the walls but it is impressive when you see the number of people who have been to the camp and those who had been there three or more years. The numbers of fish that were written on the walls were somewhat unbelievable. However, although we did not catch any trophies nor did we catch some of the numbers written on the walls, we did catch a lot of quality fish. We kept track and finished up with 495 walleye and 175 northern. The largest walleye was 22 inches and the largest northern was 39 inches. We accomplished our objectives. We caught quality fish and we ate fish every day. We also found the waters were easy to navigate with very few hazards, yet provided enough territory and variety of water to satisfy our explorers. We particularly enjoyed some of the local wild life. Yogi Bear came to visit to enjoy some of the raspberries and current berries in the woods around the camp. Our favorite was the camp raven. He would tap twice on the fish house door or the side of the boats to get our attention. So he became known as Two Tap. Overall a great trip.

We did get several northerns at 37 inches along with the one at 39 inches, I am enclosing some pictures for you. In addition I am enclosing my favorite picture of the view from the cabin.

Thanks again to you and all your staff for making this such and excellent adventure!

 The Houk Group

Hi,

Thanks for your email. I have been to Shearstone Lake once. I went with my dad, father in law and wife. We had a great time up there and would definitely go back again. Bruce, John, Debbie and Rena run a great operation up there. They have been doing fly in trips for so long, no detail is overlooked.

The walleye fishing was great. The numbers were awesome. We all had no problems finding numbers of fish everyday on the water, including fish to eat for shorelunch. I believe the biggest one we boated that trip was 25", but there were several in the 20 + range. As far as the pike, the biggest one boated that trip was 44" which was a real nice fat fish. We spend the majority of our time fishing walleyes, but the times that we targeted pike, we did well with them too.

I have not been to other outposts that they have as of yet, but do plan to get up there again soon. I can't say enough good things about them, they are great people and do a great job and making sure that your trip is going to be one to remember for a lifetime. The boats/motors were in great shape, the cabin was nice and the lake is beautiful. We did not see anyone else up there the whole time we were there, which was great.

Doug Warren

Dear Rene:

We have been to Canada fishing twice so we are not experts by any means! I'm not sure that we are even that great of fisherman? But we had a great time at Shearstone! We have been there twice. We caught a lot of fish this time because we listened to what Bruce told us the first time, but it didn't sink in until this time.

He said that if you are not catching fish very often, move. The first time we didn't do this and this time we did. We caught at least 50 fish per boat per day. That is a 9AM to 5PM or so day with an hour or so for lunch. Not intense fishing by any means. We caught mostly walleyes. A lot of over 20 inch fish with the vast majority between 18-25.

We never did really find the Northerns? Might be because we are not great fisherman? I had an over 40 incher up to the boat 5 times but we just couldn't seem to get it in the net, and we weren't sure we should bring it into the boat, so it finally broke my line, and that was OK.

We caught a fair number of Northerns while fishing for walleyes. Most were over 28 inches. One was netted by the other boat by accident when they were netting a walleye. That was fun to see!

We would definitely go to Shearstone again! We cannot compare any of the other outposts to Shearstone. Whatever Bruce, Debbie, John or Rena told me I would believe, I guess.

I sent my Board of Directors up to an outpost last year, Rena would remember which one, and they had an awesome fishing trip. They are now spoiled for life! They have went many places over the years and none will compare to AMIK.

I hope this helps you! If you have any further questions, feel free to reply back.

 Sincerely,
Scott Dubbelde

Thanks again for a great trip up to the Cobham. As always, it is truly a pleasure to have John fly us. The warm temperatures and low water levels definitely slowed down the fishing, but we still caught plenty of fish and some that had good size.

Commitments for next year are looking good. I still have a guy that wants to join the group but cannot over the Fourth of July. As we have discussed over the last four years, if anything opens up for the week or two ahead of our scheduled week at Cobham Morley, please contact me.

I attached four pictures from the trip.

Thanks again,
Tim Gehm

Dear Rena, Got the new contract, thanks. I’ll make the motel arrangements tomorrow. We really enjoyed Cobhan this year, warm weather, no serious bugs. The boots were hanging in the tree last year, too. Beautiful sunsets and morning fog. Oh, I forgot to mention the fishing was excellent. Hello to Bruce, Debbie, John and all the rest. Thanks for your help to get us to Cherrington. See you next year. Jack

Hi Rena:

Here are a couple of pictures of Diane up at Black Birch Lake. Don't have any of her with big fish this year. Hope the season is going well for you.Regards to John and all.

Rob Sproule

Hi Renee

We sure had a good time fishing this year, not that it wasn't fun before. We all caught our largest fish ever so we really felt good. The fishing was super and none of us minded putting the large fish back. That way we can catch more next time.

We were at Wayne & Jean's last night sharing pictures. We decided we would probably like to come back next year during the week of July 4th. Could you pencil us in as a likely maybe until we decide for sure. I think we are fairly sure we will come back to Cherrington. We need a couple of weeks to decide for sure. Please let me know when you get a chance. Thanks and say hi to John.  Roy Pingle
