Springpole Lake is definitely one of our hidden treasures. It’s located 75 miles Northeast of or base in Red Lake and is large enough for a 7-day fun filled fishing adventure. Springpole is an exceptional fishery boasting three species of fish, Walleye, Northern and Lake Trout. They can all be caught literally right off the dock. Beautiful clear water with many weedy channels and bays to hold fat Walleye and lumber sized Northern all summer long. Awesome structure enables all sizes of fish to move freely from deep water to shallow points each day so the action never stops as the depth changes. When using a portable depth finder to locate these areas, even the novice of fishermen will be highly successful here. The best fishing is so close you only need to travel a few minutes from the cabin each day to fish.
Walleye in this Northwestern Ontario gem are very healthy, no skinny fish here. Eating the highly nutritious Lake Trout food base the Walleye in Springpole Lake are remarkably thick. Walleye between 18-23” are quite common but fight like they are much larger, the length to weight converter won’t work at Springpole! Numerous exceptional Walleye are caught and released each week throughout the summer and fishing seems to get better with each season.
The water on Springpole Lake enters from the Cromarty River located a short 15 minutes away. The River is usually quite accessible and is the home of some mammoth sized Northern Pike. This 4-mile stretch of winding River is the perfect environment for Northern Pike to hang out. Many points, turns and eddies to lurk and wait for dinner. For catching mid summer trophy Northern the main lake holds a number of deeper cabbage weeds. When the time is right during the summer you can catch Walleye by the hundreds and also the Northern who feed on them. Big Trophies!
