Shearstone Lake
|
Located 90 miles north of our base and is our newest outpost addition.
Shearstone is the only cabin on the lake and accommodates parties of up to six. It's a shallower lake with lots of rock reefs and shoals, making it very easy to fish. There are some depths of 40-60', but fishing remains outstanding all summer at all depths. One of the main reasons fishing is so great is the structure that Shearstone has to offer the avid fishermen. Of course, opening a new lake and starting out with a conservation program that will continue to keep Shearstone a superb fishery sure helps, too. Eat all the fish you want as long as all the walleyes over 18" go back in the lake, as well as all northern over 27" also go back. Shearstone is like Loree and Findlay: Conservation only-NO fish come out.

There are several small portage lakes where we have put canoes. There is a short walk to these small lakes that can provide outstanding fly fishing or light weight spinning tackle.
Shearstone Lake itself is made up of three different water bases all connected by the Kap River system. The water is constantly flowing, creating numerous hot spots waiting to attack the angers bait.
|
|
The lake has many islands and peninsulas breaking up the water ways into many different channels creating the situation that no matter how windy it gets, there is always a place to fish out of the wind.
We use only 6 h.p. Yamaha Outboards on this lake for safety reasons because of all the under water structure and reefs. You can catch all the fish you want within sight of the cabin.
Whether you are a fisherman that likes to explore and fish every nook and cranny in the lake, or if you are the type that once you find them, you stay and fish them in one spot, you will find Shearstone lake to be very easy fishing.

In 2002, our first season on Shearstone, we found walleye fishing pretty much like we figured it would be. What was surprising was the number of northern between 30-39". We had caught a dozen northern between 42-48" and a dozen over 42" during our fishing analysis, but no one expected the overwhelming number of northern between 30-39".
Like we say, we have no poor fishing lakes. Shearstone is no better than any of our other lakes, unless you're looking for northern between 30-39". Chances are once you fish Shearstone, you will always want to come back. Shearstone is one of our easiest lakes to fish.

| CONSERVATION POLICY |
|
*Note: Just a reminder that you can only fish with a conservation license or a seaonal conservation license on this lake. At our Northern Lakes we have had a NO TROPHY policy since 1992. There is a reason why we have not just good, but outstanding fishing. This means that all fish over the slot must be released. All walleye over 18" and all northern over 27.5" need to be put back in the lake. If your group is on a 5, 6 or 7-day regular priced trip with us, we will include a 8 - day conservation licence. Shearstone, Findlay and Loree are completely catch and consume. Eat your daily number of fish if you like but take nothing home with you. With this type of policy you will be assured the best fishing these premier Northern Lakes have to offer for years to come.
