Summer 2008 Newsletter

Where did You Spend Quality Time with Your Family and Friends this Summer?

We hope it was with us at Amik Outposts. It is hard to believe that we have passed the halfway point of another summer. We would like to thank all of our guests who have already come to visit and we are looking forward to seeing the remaining fishermen and families who are yet to come. Everyone so far has been extremely happy and had excellent fishing. Tons of Quality Walleyes and Trophy Northerns have been caught and released on all our lakes, and we have the pictures to prove it!!

Weather

First off, our thoughts and prayers go out to all our guests that were affected by the flooding due to the heavy rain in Iowa and Wisconsin. Hopefuly things are getting back to normal. We have had more than our fair share of rain this season as well. There were a few delays and a few fishermen even had to spend an extra day in the bush. We hate to leave anyone out there and also like to get the in-going fishermen fishing in a timely manner as well, but if Mother Nature does not allow us to fly safely, we have no choice but to make these decisions with the safety of our customers our first priority. Everyone was very understanding and knew that we were doing our best to keep them informed as to what was happening.

How’s Fishing?

It’s certainly the most asked question. As usual our guests attest to the fact that fishing at our lakes has continued to get better year after year. Our conservation policy has been in place for 15 years and has started to pay big dividends in the last couple of years. Not every year is every guest going to catch a trophy but we estimate at least half and sometimes more of our fisherman say they have. Northern Pike between 42” - 47” and walleye over 26” are pretty much the standard story on the majority of our lakes. We know there are a ton of Northern caught that are between 36-40 inches and walleye caught and released that are between 23-25 inches but no one seems to mention them as they are the norm.

The stories continue to flow in about the aggressiveness of both the Walleye and Northern in our lakes. Stories of trophy fish of each species attacking average size fish as they are being reeled in. Walleyes on a stringer for lunch being hit by a Northern over 4 feet long, large Northern Pike being netted because they are attached to the walleye or northern that someone is reeling in, and don’t forget those monster Northerns that surface near the boat and follow the trophy fish being reeled in only to disappear at the boat.

Guests continue to describe our fishing adventures as "Incredible, Awesome, Unbelievable, You can catch fish everywhere, more fish than I have ever seen before, great time, fishing is out of this world and even with no live bait, fishing is so fantastic that it’s worth the trip from NY, best trip yet for walleye, great time - best walleye fishing ever, caught an outrageous number of fish and an excellent trip had by all." If you haven’t experienced this type of fishing, there really are no excuses. Plan a trip and come on up to see what we’re all about.

Doubles and even Triples?

When your fishing partner catches a fish, generally you reel in to give them a hand netting the fish or to take a picture before releasing it. But what do you do when there are two fish on and even sometimes three!! At that point everyone is on there own until someone gets rid of one. We love to hear of the stories of the Chaos caused by those aggressive fish. We have had a number of guests who come up with an odd number of fishermen in a party and decide to fish with three people in a boat, and thats when the triples come into effect. When those walleyes are on "The Bite", there can be non-stop action for hours at a time.

Photo Contest

This year we are excited to announce we are having a photo contest. The person with the winning picture will be given a free trip to one of our Premier lakes during the 2009 season. We have recieved many entries and will be sending a newsletter out this fall with the top pictures to be voted on by you! You will just simply have to reply to the newsletter with your vote for your favorite. If you have pictues or video from this past season that you would like to enter, please email them to info@canadianflyinfishing.com

Family Plan a Big Success

Last Fall we introduced a family plan into our operation and it has turned out to be a huge success. We have noticed a large increase in Father-Son vacations as well as whole families extending to 3 generations, but it is always the kids who catch the biggest fish! Nothing can beat family time without any interuptions. Come on up and leave the telephones and computers at home.

Generators

The Honda Generators we purchased this spring for our outposts have gone over quite well. A lot of groups did not have anything to charge but I anticpate that they will see a lot more use next season. They are very quiet when running and very fuel efficient as well. Our hopes are that people will bring less weight in batteries, but the main reason is to keep camera and video cameras charged up so you will share your pictures and video with us, we appreciate that immensly.

Deposits and Dates for 2009

Dates for next season are going fast, Rena has been piecing together the bookings for next season and will like to do her best to ensure that people get the dates and lakes they would like to fish. If you would like specific dates or if you have your heart set on that special lake please do not hesitate to send us an email or give us a call at the summer number in Red Lake at 807-735-9968.

Please Remember to keep an eye on John's Blog to see how things are going in the North here at Amik Outposts. There has been lots of positive feed back about our blog so feel free to send us your comments. We have been adding many photo albums to our website and here you can check out the quality of fish being caught and released at all our vacation destination lakes.

Thanks again to all of our customers who have visited us this season, we appreciate your business. We really enjoy seeing so many smiles and take pride in making people happy. For those of you that haven't been up to Amik Outposts in awhile, maybe it's time to plan your next grand adventure! We look forward to seeing everyone again.

Sincerely,

Bruce, Debbie, John and Rena
