November Fall 2007 Newsletter

Another season has come and gone. Days are getting shorter and the snow is starting to fly. As you get up in the morning and have that first cup of coffee and it is cold outside, it is hard not to think about your memories from your fishing trip from the past summer. The silence and beauty of the Canadian Shield and the action of catching fish after fish. Maybe your thoughts turn to that Trophy you landed or maybe it is the one that you did not quite get into the boat but saw a glimpse of as he went by before breaking away. Where ever your Memories turn, we hope you are thinking about making a trip to one of our Premier lakes. Everyone needs something to look forward to to get through those long winter nights. We would like to remind everyone if you do not have dates yet booked for 2008 to call or email for availability.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their patronage this season. We get a great sense of enjoyment in seeing smiling faces and happy fishermen. Over the years many people have gone into the bush and come back a changed person. This summer was no different. One Family in particular stands out in my mind though. A customer who fished with Lac Seul Airways a number of times many years ago, and now has 2 little boys who are just old enough to make the trip to the Cobham. On the way in and when I dropped them off, they were your typical 5 and 7 year old brothers. Anxious, excited, tormenting each other, you know. 5 days later I came back to find 2 little boys who seemed to be at peace. I did not see the boys I had dropped off, I saw two little fishermen. Huge smiles and big stories to tell, it was quite a transformation. 7 year old Peter was the King with a 28 1/2 inch Walleye. It makes us feel good to be able to show people a unique experience.

We had another successful season at our new base in Red Lake and everything ran smoothly and efficiently. It definately feels like home. Operating out of the Chukuni River near Red Lake is the perfect spot for our operation. During Stormy weather it does not get nearly as rough as Lac Seul which translates into a safer operating environment. Red lake also offers more variety in your selection of hotels and grocery stores. The Balmer Motor Hotel in Balmertown is your best bet for a hotel to stay the night before your flyin trip. It has the best food in town and a bar attached to the hotel as well. Everthing is in house and it is less than 5 minutes from our base. If there is no availabilty there, try the Norseman Inn in Red Lake.
Telephone numbers are Balmer 807-735-2076 Norseman Inn 807-727-2858.
Keep an eye on our Website as we will continually be adding pictures and videos. John has been carrying his camera with him to try to give everyone a taste of what he sees from day to day. We also are getting to have quite a large photo archive and would also ike to thanks everyone who took the time to send us pictures and video, either via email or sending many on a CD. These are much appreciated. Keep them coming.

Fishing during the last half of the Summer was Tremendous. Many Trophy Fish of both Walleyes and Northerns Being caught and released at all of our Outposts. August and September Walleye fishing was as good as it has ever been. Countless Walleyes over 25 inches were caught and released throughout all of our Camps.

Trophy Northern Fishing in the fall is Excellent. This season was no exception.. Almost every group in September had more than one Northern over 40 inches. In some cases there were 5 or 6 Trophies landed. Fish under 36 inches are way too numerous to mention so I will only stick to the real big ones.

Here is a list of just a few of the Trophies reported to us in the latter part of the Summer,

All of us here at Amik Outposts wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Pleasant winter. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to the U.S. and Canadian Soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan and hope for their safe return when the job is done.

What's New

We are always listening and paying attention to our customers trying to make your Canadian Flyin Fishing experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We see a more and more of a demand for electric power. To accomodate this demand we are hapy to announce that we will be purchasing 1000 watt generators for each of our Flyin Outposts. These will be set up with gas and an extension cord that will reach to the cabin. These generators are very quiet and easy to operate. Batteries are heavy but if you only bring one rechargeable battery, it should cut down on your Flyin weight. Cameras and Depth Finder Batteries to can be charged from these generators but you will have to bring your charger. The main purpose of these generators is for people who use a sleep apnea machine. At most camps we can make these machines work with our solar power systems but it can create a drain on our battery bank. These new generators will be a nice addition to our deluxe outposts.

New Motors are also on our list of purchases for the 2008 season. We replace aproximately 1/3 of our motors annually.

Highway Improvements have been completed from Ear Falls halfway to Red Lake. That was a fairly rough stretch of highway and is now alot nicer ride on brand new blacktop.

This fall we completed quit a number of projects at the Outposts including dockwork at Cobham Daniel and Findlay. The portage trail at Findlay was also cleaned up as it was growing in. The Cobham River and Jeanette Lake each recieved a second outhouse. Cobham Daniel and Loree Lake each had Boat ramps rebuilt.

Thank you again,
Bruce, Debbie, John and Rena
