August 2009 Newsletter

Another summer is winding down and many a fishermen have left Amik Outposts with smiles on their faces and memories to cherish. Our summer in Northwestern Ontario has been cooler than normal but the fishing has stayed just the same. Awesome!!

The spring was a little late in coming this season and it has backed everything up. The mayfly hatch was 2-3 weeks late, and the cabbage weeds did not begin to show up until late July when they are normally exposed and full of fish during the first week of July. Most walleyes stayed in less than 10 feet of water until well into July, when normally you would be fishing 12 to 18 feet. It sure made finding them easy! Countless 27-30 inch walleyes have been caught on all of our lakes but so many walleyes between 22-26 inches!!! Northerns were also plentiful with a couple of 46 inchers in the lead to date as the largest. There has been countless stories of BIG northerns attacking hooked walleyes "t-bone" style! One fishermen on Shearstone landed a 35 inch northern that was attached to one of the walleyes on the stringer with his BARE HANDS!!!

This fall we will be adding to and changing our website, adding many more photo galleries to show "The Proof" of the Quality Fish you can catch at Amik Outposts. Also keep an eye on John's Blog to see the most recent events happening at Amik Outposts.

It is nice to see pictures of big fish and smiling faces but any good pictures that you may have from your vacation with us, we would like to see them. The winning picture will get a free stay with us in the 2010 season.
